SHOOT NYC

Portrait and Lighting workshop in New York City

DEC 10th + 11th 2022

This is a two day, comprehensive workshop that covers creating rapport, lighting, directing, styling, and how to get the most out of your images. Lead by photographer Leslie Hassler and lighting expert Miguel Goodbar, with special guest Cliff Hausner of Profoto. We will go over different lighting setups from simple single light studio setups to complex multi-light arrangements using a wide array of techniques that give you hands-on experience. Hand outs with diagrams will allow you to take the information back and apply it to your own photography. We will be using the newest Profoto equipment for both studio and location shoots so you will get the opportunity to use the finest equipment in the industry.

We will also teach you different ways to work with and direct your subjects to get the results you want. Whether it's a clean advertising portrait or a dramatic, contrasty portrait for a magazine, we will teach you how to light and direct the entire shoot.

Once we have all done our indoor and outdoor portaiture, we will take a look at workflow. Over the course of an afternoon, we will go over everything from processing RAW files, color correcting and cropping. From there, we will teach you how to create web galleries and export your jpegs or tiffs.

You will be working with lighting, both natural and strobe and you will be learning from two of the best in the industry! Leslie and Miguel have worked on literally hundreds (if not thousands) of photo shoots over the last 15 years and have been thrown into about every situation imaginable as a professional photographer. We take that knowledge and experience and use it to teach two full days starting with our basic philosophies on lighting and working with the subjects and models to get authentic looks both in studio and on location. We do a portfolio review a week before the workshop, one on one, to get to know you and your photography goals.  In addition to the meeting, we will send you a fun homework assignment several weeks prior to the workshop!

Imagine leaving the workshop with the tools you need to make money as a photographer!

Level 2 (The Advanced Course) will incorporate retouching and pitching your work to magazines, getting an agent and much more.

About Us

LESLIE HASSLER

Leslie began her career assisting some of the best photographers in the world. Her first solo client was Harrison Ford who took her under his wing. One of Leslie's first portraits of Harrison landed on the cover of G.Q.

"I like to keep my shoots very playful and loose. Being very visual, I want everything in the frame to work, so I often style portraits myself, pulling out hats or great clothes I've collected. I love images. As a teenager, I plastered my walls with photographs and storyboards.”

Leslie lived and worked in Paris for five years. Back in New York, she attended NYU Film School. She began writing, directing and editing short films which led to screen tests for actors. Leslie specializes in Branding for entrepreneurs, actors and chefs. Shooting for Bon Appetit, Saveur and Gourmet magazines is where she got her start as her passions are food, wine and travel!

Leslie’s work has appeared in Rolling Stone, Vanity

Fair, Vogue, Australian Vogue, New York Magazine, Elle, The N.Y. Times, Los Angeles Magazine, Oprah, and on many covers including G.Q. :)
